Friday, 05 February 2010 Honourable Don Morgan, Q.C. Dear Mr. Morgan, Re: Private Property Resolution for the Saskatchewan Party Convention I understand from Lorne Mysko, our Association’s Director on the Saskatchewan Party Resolutions Committee, that Saskatchewan Party President Gary Meschishnick still has some concerns with the Private Property Resolution that the Saskatoon-Meewasin and Saskatoon-Massey Place Constituency Associations have submitted to the 2010 Saskatchewan Party Convention. Our existing Saskatchewan Party Policy clearly recognizes that a Saskatchewan Bill of Rights without protection of an individual’s Right to private property is deficient in the extreme. I am disappointed that Mr. Meschishnick has not been able to understand the need for the Saskatchewan Party Government to repair a constitutional deficiency that the New Democratic Party Government, and their CCF predecessor, has perpetuated since 1947. Since the membership of the Saskatchewan Party supports an amendment to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms to “enshrine the individual’s right to own property in the Constitution of Canada”, and as former US Speaker of the House Thomas P. (Tip) O'Neill, Jr., said, “All politics is local”, I am at a loss to understand Garry’s aversion to this logical step in repairing our current deficient provincial legislation with a succinct, reasonable, commonsense amendment to an existing Act. We would certainly appreciate knowing before the Convention that we have your personal and ministerial support for our Resolution protecting our Right “to enshrine the individual’s Right to own property”. I trust that you are refreshed an invigorated after shoveling all of January’s snow.
